About Us

Nestled on the edge of Richmond’s lifestyle retail hub at the Paris end of Swan Street, Richmond (Victoria), Momu is a furniture and homewares store brimming with a unique collection of designer goodies for an inspired interior.

Deriving its name from the Modern Museum (Antwerp, Belgium), Momu is not surprisingly just that – a multi dimensional business offering a beautifully curated collection of classic and contemporary furniture, rugs, lighting and objet d’art for the discerning consumer.

Founded on a passion for interior design, Momu is a family business that opened in 2005 when well-established Melbourne Interior Designer Richard Gasking (Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia) became increasingly frustrated by the lack of interesting products at his disposal to create a unique, upmarket sophistication in the homes he was styling.

Eleven years on, Momu still has interior design at its core, with Richard and wife Valda an integral part of the business. It is their sons Lec (also an interior designer) and Marcel (marketing director) however, who now oversee all buying, and are the creative duo steering the business into its next phase.

Whilst plenty of buying inspiration is amassed scouring countries such as Belgium, France, Morocco and Japan for an eclectic range of decorator pieces for its customers, the Momu team is also very committed to supporting local manufacturing, with all of their custom made upholstered furniture and hand-carved timber pieces made in Melbourne. Offering a point of difference with their flexibility to customise and shorter lead times has proven to be a highly successful formula for Momu.

So if you’re yet to discover the treasure trove of interior inspiration at Momu, do yourself a favour and visit this decadent Melbourne store. Expect to find good old fashioned service from a highly qualified interior design led team, a complimentary barista-made coffee on weekends, and a timeless collection of furniture and homewares which tastefully fuse classic and contemporary styling.
